“Jackson’s Homeless/Mental Health Crisis” – City Council Wrap Up 9/1/2020
On Tuesday night, the City Council debated whether an order awarding a grant to Stewpot community services for providing emergency shelter services would be beneficial to the quality of life for Jackson’s residents, ultimately passing the item with a vote of 6-0.
“Where does our City’s Money go?” – City Council Wrap Up 9/1/2020
On Tuesday the City Council voted 3-2 to authorize the Mayor’s right to execute contracts for the city in the total amount of $7,401,794.02. The bulk of the monies approved went to contracts between the city and the following companies;
“Bringing revenue to the city.” – City Council Wrap Up 9/1/2020
Mayor Lumumba announced installation parking meters were “finally here”. Though no official announcement has been made, Lumumba was encouraged.
“Increase City Workers Minimum Wage” – City Council Wrap Up 9/1/2020
During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Councilman Stokes introduced a plan to increase the minimum wage of Jackson’s city employees to $15 an hour.
“Problem Properties” – City Council Wrap Up 9/1/2020
Dilapidated houses with overgrown yards continued to dominate the conversation during Jackson City Council’s September 1st meeting. On Tuesday, the City Council voted (5-0) to declare a number of these properties in the city of Jackson to be “a menace to Public Health Safety and Welfare”
